[England]. George Dandin ou l'échelle matrimoniale de la Reine d'Angleterre; little national tale, translated from English by the author of the political house that James built. With fifteen engravings. Paris, Ponthieu, 1820. In-8 paperback, printed cover (lined with yellow cardstock reinforcement). Translation of pamphlets published in London newspapers, illustrated with fifteen woodcut caricatures from the English originals, showing the famous The Queen's matrimonial ladder. Complete with the 15 satyric illustrations engraved out of text. Cover restored, in sheets, unbound, scattered freckles. Libelle translated into French about Caroline of Brunswick (1768 -1821), who married the Prince of Wales (later George IV) in 1795. The marriage was a failure; the spouses separated just after the celebration and led a "sulphurous" life on their own, but the Prince of Wales did not tolerate his wife's conduct. The Princess had a great love affair with the Italian spittoon Bartolomeo Bergami, whom she showered with titles and favours. Once on the throne in 1820, George IV did not allow Caroline to share his title or to attend the coronation the following year. Poor Princesses of Wales...
