Engraved illustrated title and 7 plates engraved out of text (6 views and a historical scene). Thumbnails, lettering and culs-de-lampe. The first castle, built 2 km from Evreux in 1330 by Jeanne II queen of Navarre, wife of Philippe comte d'Evreux, was rebuilt in 1686 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Godefroy-Maurice de La Tour d'Auvergne, duke of Bouillon and comte d'Evreux. His descendant, Godefroy Charles Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, carried out several improvements there until 1786, including two factories, a Temple of Love and a Garden of Hebe. The gardens, redesigned by English architects, include greenhouses and an orangery. The estate was acquired at auction in 1809 by Napoleon, who, after their divorce, gave it as a gift to Josephine, Duchess of Navarre, who lived there for two years. Her grandson, the Duke of Leuchtenberg, in turn sold the estate in 1834 to M. de Dauvet, who demolished the castle in 1836 to build a factory and sold land and meadows in detail. The site of the castle is currently occupied by the Evreux racecourse and the district has taken the name "Navarre district". Ex-libris Albert-Claude Dubrulle. Qqs rubbed on the back, qqs small pricks.
