DEPARCIATES (Antoine). Project to bring the Yvette River to - Lot 143
DEPARCIATES (Antoine). Project to bring the Yvette River to Paris by the late Antoine Deparcieux, of the Royal Academies of Sciences of France, Sweden & Prussia, the Royal Society of Sciences of Montpellier, the Royal Academies of Lyon, Metz & Amiens, & royal censor. New edition, put in order & published by Antoine Deparcieux, grand-nephew of the Author, Lawyer at the Parliament, Professor of Mathematics & Experimental Physics; followed by a dissertation by M. Perronet, on the means to bring to Paris a part of the Yvette & Bièvre rivers. Paris, Jombert, 1776. In-4 of [2] XXXVIII -161 (1) pp. Marbled calf, decorated back with nerves. Illustrated with a portrait of the author, a folded painting and a large map of the course of the river Yvette, of the Bièvre or Gobelins, and of the canal which must lead to Paris the water of the Yvette taken at Vaugien. This project immortalized the name of Antoine Deparcieux. It is the most magnificent idea that could have been conceived at the time to provide the city of Paris with a convenience and salubrity that it will never have until this project is carried out. All of Mr. Deparcieux's memoirs on this subject are in this volume with various additions. We have also added Mr. Perronet's excellent memoir and an analysis by Messrs. Macquer & Cadet of the waters of the Bièvre and Bure rivers, which we propose to add to the Yvette. Very nice copy in good condition, small wetness in the upper margin.
