FABRICIUS (Jean-Chrétien). Trip to Norway, with observations on natural history and economy. Paris and Strasbourg, Levrault, An X (1802). In-8 green half calf, plain spine, gilt title (contemporary binding). First edition of the French translation of this work by the Danish entomologist and economist Johann Christian Fabricius (1745-1808), published in 1779 in Hamburg. Sent by his father to Uppsala at the age of 17, he studied for two years under Linnaeus, who had a profound influence on him, and in the following years travelled throughout Europe to attend courses and conferences, study collections and collect insects. He was appointed professor of economics at the University of Copenhagen on his return in 1769, before accepting to teach natural history, economics and finance in Kiel in 1775. Most of the specimens in Fabricius' collection are now kept at the Zoological Museum of the Universita de Copenhagen. Scrubbed on the back, worn out caps and bits otherwise good ex.
