ESTOURMEL (Joseph, Count of). Memories of... - Lot 97 - Hôtel des ventes d'Évreux
ESTOURMEL (Joseph, Count of). Memories of France and Italy in the 1830s, 1831 and 1832. Paris, Dentu, 1861. In-8 half-maroquin long green grain, smooth back nicely ornamented, gilt title, date in tail, cold fillet on the plates, gilt head (rel. legt post. de Pouillet). Auditor at the Conseil d'État and prefect, Count Joseph d'Estourmel (1783-1852) made several trips under the July Monarchy to Italy and then through Asia Minor, Greece, Syria and Egypt, from June 1832 to September 1833, in the company of the Swiss artist Wolfensberger. These last peregrinations led to the publication of the Journal d'un voyage en Orient (1844), as well as an abundant production of drawings, washings and watercolours, from which many lithographs were taken.
