North Africa - TULLY (Richard). Narrative... - Lot 78 - Hôtel des ventes d'Évreux
North Africa - TULLY (Richard). Narrative of a ten years' residence at Tipoli in-Africa: from the original correspondence in-the possession of the family of the late Richard Tully, esq. the british consul. Comprising authentic memoirs and anecdotes of the reigning Bashaw, his family, and other persons of distinction; also, an account of the domestic manners of the moors, arabs, and turks. London, Colburn, 1817. In-4 of [1] XIII (2) -376 pp., red half-marquin with corners, richly ornamented ribbed spine, double gilt fillet on the plates. Second edition illustrated with a map and 7 beautiful colour plates. The author was consul of Great Britain at the court of Tripoli from 1783 to 1793. He describes in a very precise way the court of Tripoli, morals and customs. It is one of the most important works on this region. Tully's family was very close to the court and the women of the Tully family were able to enter the Seraglio. A fine copy.
